Sarah Ann Rector (she/her) is a community college professor and songwriter, based in Porterville, California.
A native of Porterville, she received degrees from California State University, Fresno and the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. She has had the privilege to train with world-class musicians including Joyce Cobb, Theo Bleckmann, Tim Ries, Poncho Sanchez, and arranger Sam Shoup.
Sarah has performed across genres. She was lead singer for the ska band Pocket Money in Fresno, played washboard with the Side Street Steppers, and founded the Sarah Rector Trio in Memphis. She was also a member of the Fresno Grand Opera and Opera Memphis choruses.
Sarah is currently enrolled in the DMA program in Music Education at Boston University. She teaches full time at Porterville College, and lives with her husband, conductor Benjamin Makino, their daughter, two dogs, two cats and three ducks, in Porterville.
